On September 14, 2024, Operation Compassion Philippines Inc. successfully conducted a Parent Effectiveness Session at Treehaus Play Events, Learning Hub, in New Manila, Quezon City. The event, attended by foster and adoptive parents, featured expert speakers from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) NCR. The session aimed to equip parents with valuable insights and strategies to better support their adopted and foster children.

The session focused on four key areas. First, participants learned how to understand the emotional needs of adopted and foster children, addressing issues such as transitions and attachment challenges. Second, the event highlighted the importance of developing effective communication skills, emphasizing the value of clear, empathetic dialogue in fostering trust and openness within the family. Third, parents were introduced to positive discipline strategies, which encouraged guiding behavior and cooperation while boosting the child’s self-esteem without resorting to punitive measures. Finally, the session underscored the importance of strengthening parenting support systems, both within the family and through community networks, to help parents meet the unique needs of their children. The event also welcomed new prospective adoptive parents to the group, with participants expressing excitement and sharing words of encouragement and helpful tips. A simple celebration followed, marking the newcomers’ introduction to the growing community of adoptive and foster families. The session fostered a supportive environment, encouraging parents to strengthen their bonds and continue their journey of providing loving and nurturing homes to children in need.
