I:  ONDOY (METRO MANILA)

A. RELIEF AND EMERGENCY RESPONSE

OC’S immediate relief assistance to the victims of typhoon Ondoy

Immediately after Typhoon Ondoy hit Metro Manila and destroyed properties, lives, and spirit, Operation Compassion went to see the extent of the damage that same day.

OC was able to distribute 2 million pesos worth of relief goods to 5,000 families  in Metro Manila, Bulacan and Pangasinan in 10 days. This was made possible through the help of tireless volunteers, the social welfare and development, Tulong Bayan operation and generous people who donated mostly in kind for the benefit of the victims.   We also conducted medical missions and feeding programs on which 1,250 families benefited from it.

B. REHABILITATION OF INTERNALLY DISPLACED PERSON’S FROM MARIKINA

OC focuses its efforts on rehabilitation of Typhoon Ondoy victims

The call for help came in the form of assistance to rebuild the lives of internally displaced people of Marikina City.

In meeting with Marikina City Mayor Marides Fernando, OC tasked to look after the relocation and rehabilitation of 1,000 families to a National Housing Authority project in Laguna. Mayor Fernando decided to relocate the families who lived in danger zones who were gravely affected by the massive flooding that saw a large part of the city submerged.

OC did an ocular of the relocation site, A 20- square meter barracks type, which is now the new home of each of the families. At present, 492 families were transferred to NHA, Balibago, Sta. Rosa, Laguna while 732 families were in NHA, Brgy. Langkiwa, Binan, Laguna.

OC adopted a total of 1,224 families . OC was tasked to prepare the people mentally and emotionally on their new environment, assist them in establishing their new home, and lastly help them to look for means of livelihood. Instead of dole outs, OC will empower the people and help them get back on their feet. They need to regain their self –esteem and learn to live on their own.

As part of the rehabilitation, OC was able to conduct the following in partnership with different organizations:
